## The Command SLM switch

`cm.slm.enabled` controls whether the Command SLM assistant is available in this instance.

|                       |                                                                                      |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Key**               | `cm.slm.enabled`                                                                     |
| **Type**              | boolean                                                                              |
| **Default**           | `true` (on)                                                                          |
| **Who can change it** | YouDesign Command administrators |
| **Takes effect** | Immediately, for every user, on their next screen paint. No rebuild and no sign-out. |

### What "off" removes

* The assistant dialog on the right of the workspace.
* The collapsed rail that reopens it.
* **Start in chat**, **Discuss in chat**, and **Resolve in chat** on use-case and assessment screens.
* The **continue in chat** hand-offs on advisory reports.
* Running a governed question from the question sunburst. The questions stay on screen and say the assistant is switched off, so nobody has to guess why the cards no longer respond.

### What "off" does **not** remove

* Reports, roadmaps, analyses and any other content already created. Nothing is deleted and nothing is archived.
* The governed question corpus, the use-case catalogue, and their browsing screens.
* Any Data Governance, Measures, Scores or Lifecycle configuration.
* The user's own layout preference. Someone who had the dialog open finds it open again when the switch is turned back on.

{% hint style="info" %}
**A missing record means on**

The switch is on until an administrator turns it off. If the record does not exist, holds a value that is not a switch position, or cannot be read because the settings endpoint is unavailable, Command treats it as on. This is deliberate: a failed request must not be able to look like an administrator disabling the product.
{% endhint %}

### Turning it off

1. Open **Global Settings** in Command (administrators only).
2. Find **Command SLM assistant**. It is listed with its description whether or not the instance has a record for it yet.
3. Turn the switch off and select **Save**. The first save creates the `cm.slm.enabled` record; later saves update it.

The assistant disappears for every user as soon as their screen next renders. Turning it back on restores it in the same way.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.ins-pi.com/command/prior-v26.0/configuration/global-settings.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
